These were presented to Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich among other gifts from King Rama the Fifth, Chulalonghorn when Nicholas visited Siam in 1890-91. Their shapes and decorations were strictly reserved in Siamese social rank for the heir to the throne. They were made especially for his visit, and were kept before the Russian Revolution in the private apartments of Nicholas II in the Winter Palace.
